HVAC Mechanic

Position Summary:

UW Platteville invites applications for HVAC Mechanic. This position is responsible for the operation and repair of campus mechanical and HVAC (heating, ventilating and air conditioning) equipment with a high level of independence and self-initiation. This position is responsible for the trouble-shooting of building mechanical problems, identifying, correcting, reporting and communicating building operational and maintenance needs, performing specialized repairs on equipment, performing preventive and corrective maintenance on equipment, and ensuring satisfactory operation of building systems to meet the needs of the campus. The HVAC Mechanic installs, maintains, and repairs environmental control or refrigeration equipment to ensure proper operation of equipment within an assigned facility and may direct the work of other staff performing routine maintenance and repair functions.

This is a full time, benefit eligible position with wage range of $25.48-$28.85 per hour commensurate with qualifications and experience. 

 

Responsibilities:

-Monitors, tests, maintains, and repairs Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems, related equipment, and controls according to established policies and procedures

-Receives, prioritizes, and responds to service requests according to established timelines and policies

-Identifies, prioritizes, troubleshoots, and escalates system problems, equipment malfunctions, and repair needs

-Performs scheduled preventative and routine maintenance and documents activity on equipment and systems to ensure optimal and safe operation

-Develops and schedules operational work plans for staff occasionally

 

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Your resume and cover letter should be a detailed overview/summary of your qualifications and must clearly identify your experience and/or training.

Graduation from a technical college with an associate degree in Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Technology OR with a Refrigeration, Air Conditioning and Heating Service Technician technical diploma.

OR

Certified as a Senior Level Technician by NATE (North American Technician Excellence) with certifications in Air Conditioning, Light Commercial Refrigeration, Gas Heating and Hydronics.

EPA Section 608 Universal Refrigeration Certification

 

Qualified applicants will have education, training, and/or work experience related to:

-5 years of experience in Commercial/Industrial HVAC, building and equipment maintenance.

-Knowledge of operation, maintenance, and repair of electrical, plumbing, heating, refrigeration, controls, and other related mechanical systems.

-Prior welding experience

-Previous experience operating and using Building Automation Systems

-Previous experience working with commercial electrical systems

-Knowledge of OSHA safety regulations.

-Ability to react quickly and make sound independent decisions in an emergency.

-Flexibility and willingness to learn and apply new methods and procedures required from changes in facilities, equipment, retrofitting, technology, priorities, and standards.

-Ability to interact positively and provide outstanding service to fellow campus staff, students, and the general public.

-Awareness of sound safety procedures.

-Previous computer experience; including Microsoft office products.

-Ability to read & interpret plumbing, electrical, and control sequence diagrams.

-Ability to read & interpret building plans and building control sequences.

-Willingness to work in all weather and industrial conditions

-Ability to withstand repeated lifting, climbing, bending, and crawling in tight or confined spaces.

-Be an active participant in following applicable safety rules and regulations; including necessary training and drills.
