Social Media and Digital Marketing Internship / Spring Semester 2022

Reports to: Director of Marketing, Galena-Jo Daviess County Historical Society

 

Job Summary: The Social Media and Marketing Intern is responsible for assisting the director of marketing in executing the Historical Society’s social media campaigns as part of the overall communications and marketing plan. The focus will be on digital communications with the goal to build awareness about the Galena-Jo Daviess County Historical Society within the community and region, and to increase online engagement as well as visits to our sites and events.

 

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work with the director of marketing to refine social media strategy and best practices
  • Assist in managing website and social media channels (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube) and editorial calendar to ensure content is timely, relevant and engaging
  • Assis with writing compelling copy and sending monthly e-newsletters to our members
  • Prepare weekly updates and reports to track growth and success rates of specific campaigns
  • Stay up-to-date and informed on new social media trends and adapt accordingly
  • Ensure proper messaging is being executed online
  • Identify local and external leaders and influencers (internal/external) and engage them in campaigns
  • Assist with website copywriting, content development, proofing and updating as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the director of marketing

 

Qualifications:

  • Ability to understand what engages our audiences online
  • Ability to take initiative, employ good judgement, and manage projects from beginning to end
  • Excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills
  • Exceptional ability to manage details
  • Ability to multitask
  • Ability to meet deadlines and anticipate next steps or needs
  • Work effectively both independently and as part of a team
  • Work 5-7 hours a week
  • Be a currently enrolled college-level student in Communications, Marketing, History, Digital Media or equivalent work experience
  • Understand and utilize emerging platforms, digital media, and web/social media management and measurement tools (HootSuite, Google Analytics, Loomly)
  • Working knowledge of email marketing applications (Wordfly, MailChimp)
